Usrah Class Week 1

Week 1

Usrah class takes place twice a week and I intend to draw my reflections and thoughts every week inshallah. May Allah make it easy. Come along this journey as I share with you what I learnt from Usrah Class.

Monday Class

Monday was the first class of the course and our facilitator went over the course outline and task assessment for the course. It seemed simple enough, but of course, the hard part is in execution and time management. I think the key to getting good grades in this course is to just start and not procrastinate, although that is something I've struggled with for my whole life. May Allah grant both you and I tawfiq and steadfastness.

Aside from that, we had a fun icebreaker session where each person introduced themselves and a small fun fact about themselves. The facilitator was very amused with my fun fact because I told her I sometimes sleep in exams! Nevertheless, I left the class feeling excited for the coming classes.

Wednesday Class

Before the class started, our facilitator asked us to watch a short film and note comments on it. The short film was about a little girl Maria becoming friends with a kid with disability and trying to connect with him even when getting seemingly no response.

I thought the video was a beautiful demonstration of empathy and extending ropes of connection to people. Although to note, I didn't necessarily like the romantic subtext pushed on the kids and would have preferred if it were just a friendship.

After that, we went over the hadith of Jibril where he asks the Prophet to inform him about Islam, Iman, and Ihsan.

Lastly, we played a little game where each student wrote on a paper something good and bad that happened to them within the week. Then the papers were shuffled and distributed among the class. Now with the new paper, we were tasked with providing an Islamic perspective (Quran or Hadith) on the good and bad experiences were. I thought it was a beautiful way to foster sisterhood, especially with the lovey messages and encouragements the girls gave.

And that's all  for the first week. Pumped to see how the other weeks go!
